Grief Support after the Death of a Child

This website is dedicated to the memory of all of our children,

grandchildren and siblings.

The Mission of The Compassionate Friends is to assist families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age and to provide information to help others be supportive.

We are a national, nonprofit, self-help organization that offers friendship, understanding and hope to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings. Our meetings are open to all family members who are grieving the death of a child, grandchild or sibling. There is no religious affiliation and no dues or fees.

WE NEED NOT WALK ALONE

MAGGIE MARTIN

Miss You Maggie

every.single.day.

“Gone From My Sight”

By Henry Van Dyke

I am standing upon the seashore.  A ship, at my side,

spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts

for the blue ocean.  She is an object of beaty and strength.

I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck

of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.

Then, someone at my side says, “There, she is gone.”

Gone where?

Gone from my sight.  That is all.  She is just as large in mast,

hull and spar as she was when she left my side.

And she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.

Her diminished size is in me – not in her.

And, just at the moment with someone says, “There, she is gone,”

there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices

ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!”

TIMOTHY GLENDINNING

Timothy Remembered

It has been 9 years since our last smile together. We have all mentioned our child’s smile and how it lights up a room, and we are all correct. That last smile lives with all of us and will be remembered until we meet again.

A friend once said life has a beginning but has no end, I couldn’t agree more, your life, your smile, your love has no end for any of us. This year will be the same as last year on your angel date (9/5) and will continue until I don’t know when. I will visit your bench at Endicott College, sit there and look at the pond where they held your remembrance vigil, read your write up for your dedication from the class of 2019. Next, I will stop by your skateboard cross on the road where this journey started and say a prayer. Then up to Ipswich CC, and the 6thhole where your plaque ‘Another Day in Paradise’ was placed. Usually me and Katherine plant flowers, but she is away at college, so it’s me. Followed by breakfast at the Agawam Dinner, order your usual egg, cheese muffin and home fries. The day will end at Mt. Vernon Cemetery with more flowers and prayers.

We all miss you, your smile, your light, but on this day as sad as it is, I know you will be with us all. Until we meet again, all our love.

Mom, Dad and Katherine
